ARIZONA PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICERS GOING STRONG

In November, the AFBEA held their annual Desert Southwest Fire and Life Safety Conference. For the first time, there was a complete PIO track. Each information breakout session was well attended and was rated high. Jim Paxon presented in a general session and everyone loved Jim. Jim was the Lead PIO on the Rodeo/Chediski Wildland Fire.

Information officers around Arizona have another opportunity for free training and an information meeting. As we move toward a State Information Group, or as one suggested Arizona Information Officers Association, we have a state meeting scheduled for March 7th. The meeting will be in the Maricopa (auditorium) at the Mesa Public Safety Training Facility. The Facility is located at 3260 N. 40th Street, Mesa. The meeting will run from 1:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M..

Sergeant Andy Hill, Public Information Officer for Phoenix Police Department will be conducting the training. This will be the same great 90 minute program Sgt. Hill put on at the NIOA in Florida a few months ago. Block the date now. You won’t want to miss it. The meeting will be coordinated by the four listed below.

Soon most PIOs around Arizona will get an e mail from Judy Kioski. This e mail will ask five questions pertaining to a state PIO association. The survey will be tabulated and presented at the March meeting. If you don’t know Judy, she may not know you, or have your contact information. Judy maintains a large state PIO book. She keeps it updated and e-mails it out once a month. A great service! You can contact Judy at Judy.Kiosk@azdema.gov.

The four coordinators for the state meeting and working on a sate PIO association are:
